A thermal error can be triggered by several events: a failed thermistor at the steam generator (if your model is so equipped,) a failed thermistor at the wash heater, a failed wash heater, or a failed steam generator heater. It could also be a legitimate error in the event the water has overheated. If the heater fails to operate, the wash will progress as usual but without supplementary water heating.

With the power off, check all connections at the steam generator. |
If the thermistor is incorporated into the heater, you must replace the entire heater assembly. The individual thermistor part is NLA (no longer available.) See WASH HEATER for more instruction. |
New style wash heater element with thermistor built in. This unit boils the water in the tub to generate steam in the newer True-Steam® models, replacing the steam generator. The thermistor not available separately. |
Old style heater in steam generator, without built-in thermistor. |
The thermistor for the steam generator is on the top of the unit. You can check it for malfunction, but the steam generator must be replaced as an assembly. Replacement parts are not available. |
